The TALISMAN has been designed as a semi-displacement craft which can be driven extremely economically at displacement speeds. A standard 6 cylinder naturally aspirated Fordson on 2 to 1 reduction can give a cruising speed of 10 knots at 1800 r.p.m. and a maximum speed of 13.5 knots at 2400 r.p.m. although the craft was specifically designed to cruise at displacement speeds with minimum fuel consumption. Fuel consumption does increase as the displacement speeds are exceeded. The generous beam is held well aft to give excellent stability under way and the high blow assures that the craft is relatively dry even in adverse conditions. The deep deadwood coupled with the fully protective shoe ensures that the propeller is fully protected from damage in shallow water operation and the Talisman can safely be beached without propeller damage.
The craft is substantially built over sawn frames which are roughly 6 x 11/4" (150 x 32) at approximately 3ft. stations. The frames are overlaid with 1 3/4 x 1 1/2" laminated bottom stringers and 1 1/4 x 11/2, (40 x 32) topside stringers. The hull is skinned in 2 laminations of 8 or 9mm plywood or solid timber and the deadwood is cut from 4" solid timber. The decks are 12mm and the cabin tops are two laminations of 9mm over laminated beams.
The interior layout consists of a 4 berth fore cabin with upper and low bunks; a 2 berth immediately behind this to starboard with shower and toilet to port; in the saloon there is a dinette which folds down to a double berth, helmsman's position, galley and settee berth with engine under the floor in the saloon area. There is room under the floor for 200 gallons of fuel and 100 gallons of water. Aft there is a selfdraining cockpit with stern door and boarding platform. There is also a flying bridge on the saloon cabin roof with room aft for dinghy storage.
The plan includes FULLSIZE PATTERNS of the frames, stem, rims and transom plus detailed working drawings on hull construction etc. The plan gives metric and imperial measurements. For price of plan see attached price list.
