The FREEDOM has been designed as a semi-displacement craft which can be driven extremely economically at displacement speeds of up to 10 knots. The craft has been designed to get upright engines such as the 4 cylinder Fordson or Perkins or 6 cylinder Fordson, Perkins or similar as well as small V8 diesels under the floor. The Freedom is the smallest of our displacement launches designed for under floor engines.
The construction is fore and aft stringers over sawn frames, stem and rims with 2 skins of plywood or double diagonal planking sheathing the outside of the hull. The bottom of the craft is 3/4" (19mm) thick skin and the sides at 1/2" (12mm). The craft has a
solid deadwood of 4" (100mm) thick with full protection for the propeller and rudder with a fabricated shoe to support the rudder and ensure full propeller protection.
The interior layout features a 2 or 4 berth fore cabin, shower and WC to starboard and step down galley with generous headroom. The saloon has a large settee berth to starboard and a dinette convertible to a double bunk to port with a bar against the aft port bulkhead. Access to the engine is through a large hatch in the salon floor. Aft there is a self draining cockpit with plenty of room for fishing while the flying bridge increases deck space considerably.
A 100 h.p. Ford diesel on 2 to 1 reduction swinging a 22/14 propeller gives a maximum speed of 13 knots at 2500 r.p.m. and a cruising speed of 10 knots at 2200 r.p.m. and a speed of 8 knots at 1800 r.p.m. Performance figures on request.
The plan includes FULLSIZE PATTERNS of the frames, stem, rims and transom plus detailed working drawings on hull construction etc. The plan gives metric and imperial measurements.
