The DIPLOMAT has been designed as a sports fisherman/cruiser, designed specifically for coastal cruising. This craft features a large cockpit, built-in boarding platform and bait tanks and has sufficient room under the floor for engines up to 420 h.p. We envisage that the average engine being used will be between 300/400 h.p. A 3208 Caterpillar 320 h.p. on 2 to 1 reduction will give a top speed of 26 knots and a cruise of 18 knots; a 375 h.p. Caterpillar a top speed of 26 knots and a cruise of 22 knots.
The internal accommodation is four berth fore cabin with a lift-up floor panel to convert the bow into one large double bunk if desired. Behind this to port is a private two berth cabin with a large double bunk half of which is under the saloon settee. To starboard in the fore cabin is a shower, W.C. and vanity. The saloon with the elevated floor or bridge deck has a large galley to starboard aft opposite which is an L shaped settee and table.
The construction is of sawn frames at 3'2" centres overlaid with a laminated keelson and stem, laminated chines, gunwales and one piece topside stringers. The skin is 2 laminations of 1/2" plywood or solid timber applied double diagonally, while the topside is 2 skins of 3/8" (9mm) plywood again laid double diagonally in the case of solid timber or diagonally in the case of plywood. The decks and cabin top are ply/foam/ply with 6mm plywood and 25mm foam. Fuel is normally 1000 litres but there are additional long range tanks shown on the plan if desired. Water 800 litres. This design features our latest gently curving dropped sheer which offers the advantage of a high bow without having overly high freeboard aft which keeps the forward part of the boat nice and dry in a sea way. The topsides have a generous flare which gives plenty of reserve buoyancy high in the bow which also helps to keep the decks dry.
The plan includes FULLSIZE TEMPLATES of the frames, stem and transom, plus detailed working drawings and written instructions. The plan is in metric and imperial measurements.
