The GLIDE TIME is our latest catamaran design and is a symmetric vee hull form without centreboards, designed for ease of handling and comfortable cruising. The craft is constructed over conventional frames and fore and aft stringers with watertight bulkheads fore and aft in the hulls to ensure positive buoyancy. The hull is skinned in two layers of 4mm plywood and this ensures a strong semi-moulded hull construction. As with our larger 40ft Wanderlust plan, the keels of the Glide Time have been designed to take the rigours of grounding. Unlike some light weight centreboard craft which have no heavy internal structure to withstand continuous beaching, these craft are ideal for mooring areas where the craft goes aground at each low tide. The interior layout consists of six berths. Two berths fore and aft in each hull and two large berths in the bridge deck area. The generous bridge deck and large cockpit ensures comfortable cruising for a family of six. A lot of small catamarans lack bridge deck height, but the Glide Time has 609mm of bridge deck clearance and the bridge deck is carefully contoured to conform with water flow round the hull which helps to increase the clearance when sailing to 762mm.
The three quarter rig has proved ideal for catamarans of this type and the fully battened mainsail and selection of headsails combined with three deep reef points, allows the Glide Time to be trimmed to suit all conditions from the light to moderate up. Our building time estimate is as follows: Hulls filled, sanded and glassed 400 hours; bridge deck, decks and cabin 200 hours; internal finishing, painting etc. 200 hours.
The plan for the Glide Time includes FULLSIZE PATTERNS of the frames, stem and transom plus detailed drawings of setting up, hull construction etc. plus written instructions.
