The 58ft. FRONTIER is a hard chine displacement hull capable of speeds up to 12 knots. A 400 s.h.p. diesel will give 12 knots at full throttle and cruise at 10.8 knots. The craft has a wide fairly flat stern section which enables it to leave the wake clean at maximum speed thus increasing the speed considerably from normal displacement hulls with a consequent fuel saving. The Frontier has a hold capacity of 1440 cubic feet. The standard propeller aperture is for a 54" propeller. The hull is plated in 5mm to 6mm steel over fore and aft stringers. The frames are at 3ft centres with the engine room frames at 2'0" spacings and the hole spacings at 2'6". This allows the craft to be easily extended out to 65ft if desired. The shell plating is supported on the fore and aft stringers and the craft is constructed upside down for ease of welding and plating. There is approximately 30 tonnes of steel required to build the hull, decks and cabin. The Frontier has a four berth crew accommodation under the fore deck. However, this could easily be increased to 8 berth if desired. In the fore cabin there is also a toilet, wash basin and ample hanging lockers. The wheelhouse has a dinette, galley and oil skin locker and is roomy and spacious for crew comfort. The engine room is under the wheelhouse floor for ease of access and to prevent possible water entry. The Frontier has a working area of 26 x 16ft aft of the wheelhouse. This craft has been specifically designed for trawling and purse seining and has been designed to give above average speed to and from the fishing grounds. The hull takes approximately 2500 hours to construct and the decks, cabin, engine beds etc. a further 3000 hours.
The plan includes lines drawing with table of offsets, plus detailed drawings of hull construction, general layout, cabin structure, decks, hatches etc. plumbing arrangement, shaft, steering, rudder etc. The plan has been drawn to comply with Marine Department survey requirements.
