The SANDPIPER has been designed as a shoal draught Coastal Cruiser able to take advantage of estuaries and shallow harbours while still providing an excellent seaworthy craft. This type of craft could well surprise you with its sailing ability especially its seakeeping ability in rough conditions. The simple rig ensures that the craft is easily handled. This vessel has been designed for 2 people to cruise in or for up to 6 people for day sailing. The construction requires no building jig and is the simplest form of construction that you could possibly find in any craft. Materials can be from Pine construction treated or similar, glued with either resorcinal or epoxy glue and if desired fibreglassed which should provide a craft which will last for many years. The interior features one large double bunk and a slide away galley unit under the companionway. There is plenty of storage outside the offset centre case which has been moved away from the centreline to increase the room in the cabin area. The offset centre case has no ill effect on the sailing ability of the craft. Likewise the offsetting of the mizzen mast has been done to give good access over the stern of the craft and to the outboard motor, again with no detrimental effect on sailing. Outboard motors in the 6 to 15 h.p. size are recommended as an auxiliary.
The plan includes detailed drawings on hull construction, mast, sails, rigging etc., plus written instructions.
