The THRESHER has been designed as a high performance, sports fisherman and cruiser to get the maximum speed out of engines 180 to 300hp. The weight has been kept to a minimum without sacrificing strength and likewise windage has been reduced so that maximum performance is easily obtained in offshore conditions. The vessel features deep vee forward sections with a large built in spray rail. The deadrise at the transom is 15° with a slight gullwing out to the chine to give lift under the stern. The bow features a generous rake again to reduce side windage and to enhance following sea conditions and this ensures that the forward area of the craft stays extremely dry because of the large overhang.
The hull is constructed from either sheet plywood or double diagonal planking with the bottom being 2 skins of 3/8"(9mm) with a finished thickness of 3/4" (19mm) and the sides are 2 skins of V," (6mm) with a finished thickness of 12mm. The interior layout features a forward galley with 2 berth cabin in the bow and shower and WC to port. The saloon has a large settee to port, a bar aft and dinette to starboard. The Thresher has a very large cockpit. However, this can be shortened if the craft is to be solely for cruising. The twin stern doors give excellent access to the cockpit. The freezer and gear lockers are also in the cockpit area.
A 180 hp diesel engine on 2 to 1 reduction, swinging a 22/24 three blade propeller, gives a top speed of 25 knots and cruising speed of 22 knots at 2400 rpm. Performance figures given on request.
The plan includes FULLSIZE TEMPLATES of the frames, stem and transom plus detailed drawings of hull construction, decks, cabin, interior layout, engine installation, fuel tanks and external hardwear. The plan gives metric and imperial dimensions.
