The ECLIPSE 12m high performance launch has been designed for speeds of 30 knots. To achieve this engines of around 330h.p. twins are required or a 500 h.p. single engine. Twin 555 big cam Cummins on 1/12 to 1 reduction will give a top speed of 30 knots. A V8 903 Cummins on 11/2 to 1 reduction producing 450 h.p. will give a top speed of 26 knots and cruise at 23 knots. The plan shows either twin or single screw installation.
The hull shape is deep vee forward sections with large built in spray rails which run right through to the stern. This design has maximum chine beam right at the stern 3.7m to keep the craft trimmed in the ideal attitude in the 28 to 30 knot speed range. The deadrise flattens aft to a medium vee stern section which is suited to a high speed hull configuration.
The craft is built using our proven construction method for high performance launches. This is based on sawn frames overlaid with large laminated stringers and a double skin bottom and topsides. The construction is simple and ideally suited for both professional and amateur builders.
The internal layout can be varied to suit individual requirements. The layout shown on the study print however is one which we have evolved over many years of experience in vessels of this type and size and has proven to be ideal for both cruising and for game fishing etc. On this design we have used a built in boarding platform. This is incorporating a raked after transom to deflect the water under the craft when in reverse. The boarding platform has been kept high enough to keep it reasonably dry when backing into a sea and it can also incorporate live bait tanks and storage outside the cockpit area. The flying bridge is of generous proportions and it has been designed to minimise windage both from ahead and abeam.
The plan includes FULLSIZE PATTERNS of the frames, stem and transom plus full working drawings, engine installation, layout etc.
