The ZENITH has been designed as a coastal cruiser motor sailer fifty/fifty. The interior layout has all the advantages of a launch with large roomy day cabin while the hull shape has been designed to give an easily driven craft both under sail and power. The rig is a simple Marconi rig three-quarter, with self tacking headsail, for ease of handling single-handed. This hull type motor sails extremely well and with the engine just ticking over can go to windward as fast as any racing yacht. The ballasted keel on the Zenith gives extremely good stability plus the low placement of the heavy diesel engine also assists. This combined with the modest rig gives excellent sail carrying power in moderate to fresh conditions and the rig has an excellent steadying effect in rough water.
The interior layout consists of a four berth forard cabin with a two berth owner's stateroom immediately after this to port with shower and WC to starboard. The saloon features galley with a large settee and a drop leaf table dinette. The engine is housed under the floor of the saloon so there is no engine box to contend with. This gives excellent access to the engine via engine hatches. The cockpit is fully self draining with plenty of storage under the side seats and there is a stern door and boarding platform which makes this craft an ideal cruiser.
The plan includes FULLSIZE PATTERNS of the frames, stem and transom plus detailed working drawings and written instructions. The plan gives metric and imperial measurements.
